Pursue knowledge of the Spanish-speaking world (Spain and Latin America), and establish a career on the international stage.

Spain is an intriguing country, which has a unique history and culture among the other European countries. Today, Spanish is the official language for 385 million people living in eighteen countries, in Latin America - Brazil being the exception.

Spanish is also one of the official languages of the United Nations, and is ranked as one of the most important languages in the world.

In the Spanish Division, there are eleven full-time members of staff, including two non-Japanese, whose attentive instruction of small tutorial groups leads students to acquire skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Students will develop a specialized knowledge in language, literature, history, politics, societies and other subjects, concerning Spain and Latin America. The aim of this is to encourage students to pursue further knowledge in a specific area - exploring a topic of interest of their own choice, in seminar classes.

Most of the students in the Division experience local life in a Spanish-speaking country, either in a long or short study abroad program, through which they can improve their language skills and understand more about international culture.

A feature of this major is that it not only offers Spanish courses but also provides opportunities to learn Portuguese and study the society and culture of Brazil. Because Aichi Prefecture has many Latin American residents, I have utilized what I've learned at school to do volunteer activities. In this way, the knowledge we gain about Spanish, Portuguese and Latin America can help us serve the local community.
